Leverkusen crush Bayern to go 5 points clear in Bundesliga

Bayer Leverkusen showed their strength as they dominated reigning champions Bayern Munich in a stunning 3-0 victory on Saturday. This win propelled Leverkusen five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, firmly placing them in control of the title race.

Josip Stanisic, Alejandro Grimaldo, and Jeremie Frimpong were the heroes of the day, securing all three points for Leverkusen. This victory not only extends their lead but also extends their impressive unbeaten streak to 31 matches across all competitions this season.

On the other hand, Bayern Munich, who are gunning for their 12th consecutive league title, struggled to make an impact and only managed a single shot on target throughout the entire 90 minutes. Despite hitting the woodwork twice, Bayern couldn't find a breakthrough.

Xabi Alonso, Leverkusen's coach, praised his team's disciplined performance, stating, "Today it was a very disciplined performance from my team. It was not easy but we waited for our chances. Maybe we did not have the ball too much today but we wanted to be dominant even without the ball."

Reflecting on the significance of the win, Alonso emphasized, "It was a very important win but it is just three points. We have to keep going. It is still February and we need to remain calm."

Leverkusen's triumph underscores their determination to clinch their first-ever Bundesliga title, while Bayern faces the challenge of closing the gap in the race for the championship.
