"Reports: Spencer Dinwiddie Plans to Join the Lakers"

Spencer Dinwiddie has his sights set on joining his hometown team, the Los Angeles Lakers, as revealed by a source familiar with the situation to The Associated Press on Saturday.

The talented point guard was recently traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Toronto Raptors, only to be waived shortly afterward. Now, as a free agent, Dinwiddie is poised to sign a new contract once he clears waivers.

According to the source, Dinwiddie had already made his decision before this point. The individual, speaking on the condition of anonymity, shared this information with the AP, noting that no contract can be finalized just yet.

News of Dinwiddie's intentions was initially reported by The Athletic.

Dinwiddie has been a significant presence on the court this season, starting 48 games for the Nets and boasting averages of 12.6 points and 6.0 assists per game. His return to Brooklyn last year, just before the trade deadline, marked his second stint with the team, having previously arrived from Dallas as part of the package deal for Kyrie Irving.

While the Dallas Mavericks also showed interest in reuniting with Dinwiddie, he ultimately opted to head to Los Angeles, where he was born and graduated from William Howard Taft High School. Although the Lakers didn't make any roster upgrades before the recent trade deadline, they are expected to make waves in the buyout market.

Dinwiddie is set to provide backup for D'Angelo Russell, a former teammate in Brooklyn, who recently showcased his skills with a 30-point performance in a Lakers victory over New Orleans. Dinwiddie was in attendance for the game, sitting alongside Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka.
